Another Monday Drawing Class Pastel

"White Pitcher and Lemons"
15" x 13"
Pastel

Last week I had to allow myself some free time after many busy weeks attending a workshop and preparing and hosting Silicon Valley Open Studios. The only time I did any art was with my Thursday evening group. This morning, though, I went off to my wonderful drawing class and had fun doing this pastel. Of course, it's really half done, but it will likely end up in the stack with the other half-done pieces. I learn a great deal from these exercises, especially about modeling form. Bob helped me select the pastel paper. The drapes were greys, but there was no grey paper in my price range, so he suggested a lovely soft lavender. I rather like the effect.

I will be away from the computer for a bit. Hope my blog friends have a wonderful time sharing art.

This is lovely, Mary. I enjoy pastels, too, until the framing part.
Lavender was a great choice for a painting with lemons.

I think this is just beautiful, Mary. I'm surprised you don't finish these starts and sell them. They are all so lovely.

Mary this is a charming and lovely piece of art. Even if you don't do anything else to it, I can see it framed and finished just as it is :)

I agree, a lot of the work i do during art classes are more practise rather than finished work, but I think that is good. And no I was not aware of Sabra Field, i really like some of her work, especially one called Fox in Winter, it is very simple but very beautiful! And some of her work reminds me of old japanese prints like her 'mountain autumn'. Anyways thanks for sharing!

Mary, the lavender paper was a great choice. You achieved beautiful highlights on the pitcher. This is very nice work. i agree with the previous posts: this should be framed!

Hi Mary, I hope you're enjoying your time away from the computer...it's a good idea I think! I like your work with pastel and drawing; the violet is great!

Very nice composition, but the colors are phenomenal against the violet - the yellows and greens really pop and the highlights on the vase are beautiful!

You really captured the soft shine of the pitcher, and your modeling is quite successful-difficult sometimes with light-colored subjects.
