A Small Poppy Painting

"Poppies on a Cloudy Day"
Fluid Watercolor on Tyvek
5" x 7"

It's been a busy week and not too art productive, though I am currently working another larger piece. So I did a small California Poppy painting on Tyvek using the Dr. Martin Hydrus Liquid Watercolors. They are quite intensely colored and work well on the Tyvek. I used the line design element to enhance the shape.

Hi Mary, The colors and line work is delightful! I like the bright colors against the soft, muted background tones. I look forward to seeing your portrait you're working on!

Oooo ... I like the colors! I haven't used either Tyvel or Dr. Martin's w/c's. I really like the intensity. Nice!

I'm especially attracted to these sorts of "simple" works. This just appeals to me. Thanks for sharing your creations- you have a great eye.

Mary , this is so cheerful and you know poppies are my all time favorite. (Good grief I keep painting them over and over) This one made me feel good and I needed that today. thanks

I agree with all the above comments. A beauty of a painting.

Peggy, thanks -- you help me learn what is working!

Kathy, thanks so much for checking in. I learned about Tyvek and Dr. Martin from Myrna Wacknov and got to practice in her recent workshop that I coordinated.

Pam, I, too, love simple works. I seem to go to extremes, really simple or really complex.

Christiane, thanks so much. The textures come from the Tyvek, which is like painting on plastic with fibers in it. I love the painterly results.

Barbra Joan, thanks so much. I'm happy I could give you a cheery moment.

Hallie, thanks so much. I see you've changed your picture. What a creative sculpture!

These watercolours are new to me. Their intensity makes me want to try watercolour again. One of the reasons I gave it up was because I could never get enough saturation in the colours. Tyvek I've tried. It is an interesting material to work on. My experiment was with acrylics.

Margaret, you might like the liquid watercolors. Be sure to get the Dr. Martin's labeled "Hydrus." Myrna says they are more saturated than the brand's other watercolor. Myrna seems to do most of her work using Hydrus.

I like acrylic on Tyvek and had done a couple pieces with acrylic last year. I just recently got the Hydus watercolors.
